Policies regarding intellectual property and technology transfer vary significantly between the interviewed research institutions and research infrastructures. On a general level, it seems most of this work is done on an institutional level, not within the infrastructures themselves.
Policies regarding intellectual property vary between institutions, but also between countries.
The research institutions had in some cases a technology transfer department, in some a technology transfer responsible person and in some cases nothing.
Technology transfer offices are more frequent in research infrastructure organisations within physics and materials sciences
Technology transfer offices seem to be mainly funded through the research institutions main budget. Income from other sources is small, if any at all.
